Cotton Bay - South Eleuthera Island

Cotton Bay is located approximately 9 miles south of Rock Sound. Juan Trippe, founder of Pan American Airways, built the Cotton Bay Club in 1959 as a private enclave for his friends. There are still about a dozen homes on the rise overlooking the ocean, owned by some of the wealthy families of the original purchasers. The Rock Sound airport was expanded to accommodate daily flights from Pan Am.

In the 1990s, about 1000 acres of the old club was sold to Columbian billionaire Luis Sarmiento who uses the resort as a hideaway. Sarmineto has not reinvested in the property and is presumed to be holding it as a speculative land investment.

A new Cotton Bay Club that includes a golf course, clubhouse and villas, has been developed just north of the old club. You can find Cotton Bay Beach and the surrounding developments on our maps: Location of Cotton Bay and Cotton Bay Beach.
